How we make money

How Needlist makes money.

Needlist is free to use. Some product links in our app are advertising — specifically, affiliate links. When you tap one and complete a qualifying purchase on the retailer’s site, the retailer may pay us a commission. You never pay more because of it, and commissions never influence which products we surface or how they are ranked.

What “affiliate link” means

An affiliate link is a form of paid advertising. The retailer pays us a referral fee when you buy something after tapping the link. We disclose this so you can make an informed decision before clicking.

You should assume that any outbound product link in the Needlist app or on this site is, or may be, an affiliate link — i.e., a paid advertisement.

Where this disclosure applies

Needlist is available worldwide. This disclosure is provided to comply with, among others:

  • United States — the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255).
  • United Kingdom — the CAP Code (the UK Code of Non-broadcast Advertising and Direct & Promotional Marketing), the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008, and the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, as enforced by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) and the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA).
  • European Union — the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (2005/29/EC) as amended by the Omnibus Directive (EU 2019/2161), and the Digital Services Act (EU 2022/2065).
  • Equivalent consumer-protection and advertising-disclosure laws in other jurisdictions where Needlist is available.

If your local rules require additional disclosures, those rules apply in addition to what’s set out here.

How we label affiliate links

  • Affiliate links in the Needlist app are clearly identified with an “Ad” or “Affiliate” indicator displayed alongside the link, before you tap it.
  • This page provides the broader explanation of what that indicator means.
  • Affiliate links on this website are similarly marked.

Pricing, availability, and product information

Product prices, images, descriptions, and availability shown in the Needlist app or on this site are gathered from third-party sources and are accurate only as of the date and time indicated on each item (“as of” timestamp). Prices and availability change frequently and without notice. The price, availability, and product details displayed on the retailer’s own site at the time of purchase are the ones that apply to your purchase. Needlist does not guarantee that any product information shown in the Service reflects the current state on the retailer’s site.

How products are ranked, sorted, and recommended

Some jurisdictions — including the EU under the Omnibus Directive — require online platforms to disclose the main parameters that determine how products are presented to consumers, and whether any of those parameters are influenced by payment.

For Needlist:

  • We do not rank, sort, filter, or recommend products based on commission rate, network payout, merchant relationship, or any other paid consideration.
  • Product order in lists, search results, and suggestions is determined by factors such as: your own saved order, the date you added an item, relevance to a search query, and similarity to items already on a list.
  • Where a feature exists that is influenced by a commercial relationship (for example, a sponsored recommendation), we will label it as such at the point it appears.

Affiliate networks and retailers

Needlist works with a range of third-party affiliate networks and individual retailers. The specific networks and merchants we participate in change over time as programs are added, removed, or modified. We do not maintain a per-merchant list on this page; the affiliate label appears on the link itself at the point of use.

Our commitments

  • Upfront labeling. Affiliate links are identified before you tap them. We do not rely on this page alone to disclose the commercial nature of a link.
  • No pay-to-play ranking. Commission rates do not influence which products you see or in what order.
  • No incentivized clicks. We never offer rewards, points, cashback, sweepstakes entries, or other consideration in exchange for clicking affiliate links.
  • No misleading claims. We do not represent ourselves as an endorsed, sponsored, certified, or official partner of any retailer beyond our participation in that retailer’s publicly available affiliate program.
  • Trademarks belong to their owners. Retailer names, logos, and product images shown in the Service are the property of their respective owners and are used solely to identify the source of a product. Their appearance does not imply endorsement of Needlist.
  • No deceptive practices. We do not engage in cookie stuffing, forced clicks, pop-unders, link cloaking that misrepresents the destination, trademark bidding on retailer terms, false-scarcity claims, or any other practice prohibited by applicable advertising standards or consumer-protection law.

Cookies and your consent

When you tap an affiliate link, the retailer or affiliate network sets a short-lived cookie so they can credit the referral to us. In the EU and UK we ask for your consent before any affiliate cookies are used. If you decline, we hand you off to the retailer with a plain, untracked link instead — the Service works exactly the same either way. You can review or change your choice any time on our Cookie Policy page.

What this means for you

  • You pay the retailer’s normal price. Needlist does not mark up products.
  • The retailer — not Needlist — handles your purchase, payment, shipping, returns, warranty, and customer service. Your statutory consumer rights against the retailer (including any right of withdrawal under EU/UK law) are unaffected.
  • Your purchase information is handled by the retailer under that retailer’s own privacy policy. Needlist typically receives only anonymized click and conversion data from affiliate networks — not your name, payment details, or order contents.
  • You can use Needlist without ever tapping an affiliate link. The app works the same either way.

Updates to this disclosure

Our affiliate relationships and labeling practices may change over time. We will update this page when our practices change in a material way. The “last updated” date below reflects the most recent revision.
